H.L. NIFLHEL perform most of the time a very slow and doomed black metal variation. Sometimes it sounds too controlled and cold tempered, but more often it sounds somehow cool ("Towards the Omega") or unstoppable like consequently moving lava flow. But there are also songs with some faster passages which bring dynamic into the tracklist ("As the Storm rises"). Well done are the supporting clean vocals, they really strengthen the atmosphere. A fine release, but it takes some time to get warm with it. Favorite track: Towards the Omega.

Inspired and well composed lyrics are embraced by a tracklist with no fillers. Each song coherent with others without losing identity. Clean choruses remembering Opeth's good old times but no real comparison needed. Helgafell album walks on tradition of british extreme and folk music: I recognized Wolcensmen and Jethro Tull inspiration combined with more traditional black metal influences. Tout est une question de perspective. En regardant la pochette d'Algleymi, on se dira : "c'est un constat d'échec de l'humanité face aux puissances cosmiques". Mais le gigantisme de cette silhouette est un signe que Misþyrming veut plutôt s'emparer de cette puissance et le black metal le confirmera très vite. Il est plus maîtrisé, massif et épique. Si le chant est déjà impressionnant, dégageant plus de haine, les guitares sont de leur côté absolument monumentales. Un chef-d'œuvre du genre ! Jordan Vauvert
